Located just 30 minutes north of Brussels in northern Belgium, Antwerp is home to literally thousands of the world's  best diamond cutters and polishers.  It is a city whose stature and among diamond cutters and whose prominence in the development of diamond-cutting techniques date back to the 17th century.  It was around that time that diamonds were discovered in South Africa, a discovery that lead to an enormous influx of rough diamond material to Europe.   The majority of  it traveled through Antwerp, and  the city flourishes still today as the worlds leading diamond center, where it is estimated that an astonishing 70% of the worlds diamonds go to be cut, polished and distributed.
